The Boyana Church

The Boyana Church is one of the most important antiquities of the history’s significance. It is located at the foot of the mountain of Vitosha, in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The oldest part of the Boyana Church is dating since the 9th century.

But the best part of this monument is represented by the murals, which are done since 1259. The art of this place combines the iconagraphical canons with the real life.

There are no less than 90 scenes depicted on walls which also contain 240 human images, a great art of the 13th century. The Boyana Church architecture is dating since the 10th, until the 11th century. This architecture is represented by the eastern part of the building today. Practically, there are around 18 scenes depicting only the Life of St. Nicholas.

If you want to visit this great attraction for faithfull people, you will find the Boyana Church in a residential neighbourhood on the outskirts of Sofia. It is not so hard to find it. The church is located in a lovely park, it is hidden and you can almost see it.
