The Acropolis
Acropolis, translated in English means Upper City, even if this is not a city where people have lived since the 6th century Before Christ. The monuments are located on a rock with 60 meters height, that would impresse the Athens city. The Acropolis has several walls that turn this building into an amazing fortification.
Here is also located the well known Parthenon, dating since the 5th century BC. The Parthenon was built as a Doric temple, that has eight columns in width and 17 columns in length. Someday, there was inside the statue of Athena made of gold, but it was destroyed in time.
The foundations for the temple were established in 490 BC, but the works have not begun yet until the Golden Age of Pericles. This place includes the Acropolis Museum and another 4 buildings, from the 5th century Before Christ.
The Temple of Athena is situated to the left of the Propylaea, but the original did not survive because of the Turkish forces that have invaded this place in the 17th century.
Acropolis has the greatest and the largest construction represented by the Parthenon.
