The Merlion Statue
The Merlion is a wonderful statue representing a lion head and a fish body. The gr
eat statue was built by Mr Lim Nang Seng in 1972 and it has aproximately 9 metres high and 40 tonnes. On 15 September, the same year, took place the ceremony which was officiated by the Prime Minister of Singapore.
Being one of the most important symbols of Singapore, The Merlion statue was also designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board. At night, the statue is illuminated giving the city a great touristic importance.
The statue is situated at the Merlion Park for the reason to attract tourists in the middle of a natural reserve as the Merlion Park. It is a great connection between these two.
From then, the park and the statue became a popular tourist attraction for travellers.
