Most of people are wondering why was the Big Ben Clock built?

The old Westminster Palace was burned on 1834 and ten years later, in 1844, the Parliament had decided that the new buildings for the Parliament’s Houses, should have incorporated a tower clock.

Then, George Airy ,the Astronomer Royal had to make a project for the clock. His required that “the first stroke of the hour bell should register the time, correct to within one second per day, and furthermore that it should telegraph its performance twice a day to Greenwich Observatory, where a record would be kept.”
As a conclusion, the clock has become nowadays the most renowned symbol of UK and London.
