Alcatraz island
The Alcatraz island offered the first lighthouse on California’s coast. In XIX centur
y the island was recognized as a residence for military offenders.
Beginning with 1934 year the island was used as a federal prison for the most 250 dangerous prisoners. More than 30 prisoners tried to escape from Alcatraz but it was no chance.
In 1970 the historic lighthouse burned, but finally it survived. The other 4 buildings that burned were completely destroyed. Nowadays the Alcatraz Prison is opened for tourists and it is known as a great popular tourist destination.
Surely when visitors come here they want to see more about the prison.
Some historic gardens are ready to make more interesting your journey. Although there have been dozens of attempts, no one knows any prisoner who managed to be famous escape from prison. However, the bodies of many prisoners who escaped must have been drowned in the waters surrounding the island, there was never discovered.
That’s why in 1979 producers have made a film and they got inspiration on the story of prisoners, film called “Escape from Alcatraz”.
The Alcatraz island is now opened for millions of every year.
