Barcelona offers a unique opportunity for tourists, to walk from Roman remains to the medieval fortress to the modern city with boulevards and open all its intersections left large parts of buildings are single cut. The historic center of town is almost flat, while the modern city extends to the surrounding hills, with streets that increase in altitude.
A notable feature is Les Rambles, a series of boulevards departing from downtown to the water front, full of people by night, with the florist, bird sellers, street artists, cafes and restaurants. Going up or down Les Rambles can see the prestigious El Liceu opera, food market La Boqueria market and Plaça Reial, with its arches and palm trees, among other interesting buildings.

La Rambla ends in the old port, where a statue of Christopher Columbus pointing to the sea. Nearby is the Museu Maritim presenting the history of life in the Mediterranean. Building the museum is the former shipyard, where ships were built that sailed the Mediterranean. The old port offers various splendor, including the largest Aquarium in the Mediterranean area.
Remarkable legacy is the town architect Antoni Gaudí, who lived and worked in Barcelona, which has left famous works like Palau Güell, Park Güell and the immense but still unfinished church Sagrada Família.
