The Alcatraz island offered the first lighthouse on California’s coast.  In XIX century the island was recognized as a residence for military offenders.
Beginning with 1934 year the island was used as a federal prison for the most 250 dangerous prisoners. More than 30 prisoners tried to escape from Alcatraz but it was no chance.
In 1970 the historic lighthouse burned, but finally it survived. The other 4 buildings that burned were completely destroyed. Nowadays the Alcatraz Prison is opened for tourists and it is known as a great popular tourist destination.
